Ki Edwards

Ki Edwards was born to Edward and Shearita Pettway on October 17, 1979, in Birmingham, Alabama, U.S.A. Ki has 7 siblings and attended Riggins Elementary School in Birmingham. Most of Ki’s childhood was spent in Montgomery, Alabama, where Ki attended Southlawn Elementary School, Floyd Middle School and Sidney Lanier High School.

After graduating from high school, Ki attended Miles College on a scholarship with the Miles College Choir. She majored in Early Childhood Education and Psychology, and was soon recruited to train with the Miles College track team. Although Ki’s love for track was a priority, her childhood passion for the hair and beauty industry outweighed her talent for running. During her senior year of college, Ki’s vision was born when she opened Salon Wygs!, with “Wygs” being an acronym for Women You are Gorgeous, Smile!

Ki graduated from Miles College with a Bachelor of Science, while pledging Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, a sorority committed to public service. Ki graduated from Miles College and fulfilled her dream, just not in the areas of Early Childhood Education or Psychology. Instead, she provided hair artistry to her fellow industry brothers and sisters.

Ki desired to open a salon geared toward making wigs for men, women and children experiencing hair loss due to alopecia, as a side effect of chemotherapy, or as a result of another hair-loss related condition. Her motto is: “If you pour all of what you have into making someone else feel beautiful, especially when they think it is impossible, and it’s made possible… then it becomes ministry and not a job!”

Ki married Shannon Courtney Edwards and together, they have five children. Shannon is an entrepreneur and barber, whose skills have allowed him to enjoy a career where he also uses his talent to help those within the community. Shannon and Ki Edwards are licensed by the State of Alabama in an industry they have embraced for more than fourteen years.

Ki joyfully explains, “My passion is being a wife, mother and salon owner. I love hair and feel incredibly blessed by God that I’ve found a career that resonates with me so perfectly. As a stylist, I believe in creativity, hard work and NEVER giving up, because each attribute functions together to produce a beautiful end result for my clients and my life.”
